Emerald .. will it truly fall?

Rin Tae's picture

It happened now. Emerald seem to be going to be finsihed and not continued anymore:

It is the modular systems blog but it appears that it really shows what will happen and since the blog might be going away as well, I repost what has been written there here so you can read and form your opinion based on all that has happened so far:

The clones are coming!

So right as Philip has announced it and it was already mentioned on the blog, LL has put out the first test implementation of the display name changing ability:

The big green mess

Rin Tae's picture

At first I wanted to write something about the lowering of the age limit for access to the main grid and the closure of the teen grid. I will still do it but since it is a bigger issue and I thought of the emerald mess to be more urgent now I thought to put my attention on this for the moment.

So what has happened?

A minor problem ...

Rin Tae's picture

What to think of the whole mess? First actually if it is a mess at all or if it is not screaming about a minor (*giggles*) problem. Reading the different comments and ideas people have posted in the SL forums and blogs concerning this one can find good arguments for any side in the argument one would choose to support. Of course first it would be necessary to read past the usual screaming of people who often seem to be more immature then the occasional teen who joins in and actually admits to be one.

Teen Grid ... Main Grid ... One Grid

Rin Tae's picture

Despite all what LL employees have said over the past years the time has come and Philip has announced the much feared merger of the teen grid and the main grid:

Another Linden leaving

Rin Tae's picture

As New World Notes writes ... the LL team reductions from a month ago have not been enough and now another Linden has fallen victim to those cuts. This time it hit Qarl Linden:

The first ... hopefully not last .. inworld meeting

Rin Tae's picture

So the big meeting happened. I didn't get a ticket so I only watched it over Treet TVs webstream:

Inworld meeting and the corporate spin

So it happened! Philip announced when the meeting will happen and while it seems like they indeed have realized that they have to prevent the usual screaming competition it left me with what I usually describe as a 'oO'-moment. But read yourself and don't leave the comments below out since they sum up a lot of what the concerns of the residents are and show the points that are being criticised:

SL .. the future might be bright

Rin Tae's picture

Philip Linden posted this very interesting letter in the SL blogs and I think it might be a good idea to comment on it and write up some of the thoughts I had while reading it. After all, he is mentioning a few interesting things and gives a bit of an insight of what might be going to happen in the future of SL. Or rather, he gives some fuel to speculations and rumours that will for sure once again spread throughout the grid.

Communities

Rin Tae's picture

Compared to what happened before .. the LL team reduction, the stepping down of M Linden as CEO and the mess at the birthday exhibion the last week was rather silent. Of course it is hard compete with all the mess and excitement but also allwos for some look back at what was going on. For example, the birthday exhibition went past without being that exciting as I bet the LLs wished it to be. It even was rather silent lacking any proper advertisment and form what I have seen .. going past large parts of the SL communites wihtout being noticed.
