We have been discussing a voting system for spaces like Second Life, to help in ToS negotiation, in the following SL Issues Discussions. We might want to summarize that a bit, to make line of thoughts a bit clearer:

Some other info-links regarding complete internet-voting:

US Defense, about Federal Voting Assistance Program (FVAP) & Secure Electronic Registration and Voting Experiment (SERVE):

GNU.FREE, a project to give nations a Free Software option of conducting elections using the Internet:

Both experiments have been stopped - due to perceived impossibility to get secure enough

I've been looking through some sites about e-voting and it seems like there is a lot of work being done from several directions. Mostly, it's from comercial companies trying to sell their system to those needing it stating that it is all secure and perfect. But I have not found any indication so far, that this claim could be justified. One very intersting link is: http://www.governments-online.org/documents/InternetVotingSweden.pdf a swedish gov study about such systems. Another link that seems interesting is this organisation that I would still need to have a better look into: http://ivta.org/founding_index.html No.3 is a news article: http://www.popularmechanics.com/technology/industry/4288327.html And finally number four describing a reaserch project by Georgia Tech university: http://www.gtri.gatech.edu/casestudy/future-voting This is of course jsut the result of a quick search through the results google offered for the topic.
